Thomas Jefferson Dunlap Born 26 January 1830 in Alabama Farmer & Soldier First Justice of the Peace of Comanche County who performed the first wedding in Comanche County October 23, 1856, between Elizabeth Cunningham and Thomas J Holmsley (witnessed by C.C. Campbell). "During the Civil War, he first served as a Third Lieutenant under 4th Alabama (Russell's) Cavalry Regiment. As the war dragged on, he served under several Regiments and traveled extensively over the South. Documents show that he was engaged in military service during the entire war." from Anna Thompson's submission to the Comanche County History Book. After the death of Martha Jane Duke, "married Susan Osburn October 29, 1873, in Comanche County. Susan was born June 30, 1848, and died April 4, 1908. Children with Susan Osburn: 1) Martha Edna was born Jan. 1, 1875, in Comanche County and died there Jan. 29, 1961. She married Charles W. Butler March 20, 1895, in Comanche County. They had four children. 2) Elbert John was born in 1878, in Comanche County. He married Arminta Jane Wood (1876-1965) Dec. 9, 1896, in Comanche County and died in Abilene, Texas on Dec. 16, 1962. They had six children. Their oldest son, Emmuel Donus (1897-19??) was the founder of Thomas Jefferson Dunlap Reunion in 1933. The first few reunions were held in "Eanes Park, Three Miles South of Comanche, Texas." Died 7 January 1899 in Comanche County, TX |

| Martha Jane Duke Born January 14th, 1833 in Alabama Married about 1850 Children: 1) Samuel Stephen (1851-1914) married Charles Etta Campbell in 1879. They had 12 children. 2) Mary Elizabeth (1853-1868). 3) James Wyatt (1856-1856) only lived three months. 4) Davis Bell (1857-1931) married Mary Jane Osborne in 1876. They had eight children. Dora May, their oldest daughter, born in 1878, married Arthur C. Hoover in Ozona. She helped found the Thomas Jefferson Dunlap Reunion in 1933. 5) Sarah (Sallie) Temperance (1860-1879) married D. L. Harden in 1878 in Comanche County. They had one daughter. Sallie died of consumption (tuberculosis). 6) Frances (1862-1862) only lived six days. 7) William Bedford (1865-1938) married Fannie B. Tate in 1898. They lived in Ballinger, Runnels County, Texas. A biographer, Annie McAulay from Maverick, Texas, interviewed Will shortly before his death. He told her his cowboy experiences in a story titled "Range-Lore." 8) John Walter (1869-1873). 9) Charles Campbell (1870-1947) married Josie (Surname not known). They lived in Cameron, Milam County, Texas and had one daughter, Ollie Dunlap. Died of consumption (tuberculosis) March 14th, 1873 when her son Charles was only 3 years old |
